The cry of Lagos hawkers

Many times, I have witnessed hawkers being arrested and bundled into black Maria and I have often wondered what their crime is. Fine it is said that anything the law sees as a crime is a crime? Yes. But what happens when the government gives less options?

Furthermore, what happens when the government fails to perform their duties especially the ones they promised before these same masses voted them in? Is there no law against the government in this regard? If a hawker is bundled away in a black Maria, what should a government that fails to perform it's duties be bundled away in? Better still, what should a government official that embezzles the nation's resources be bundled away in?

All these are questions that beg for answers. Why do the poor get prosecuted while the rich gets a pat on the back? Where are the likes of Bankole, Lai Mohammed, DSP Alamieyeseigha, Bukola Saraki, James Ibori and so on?

There are basic amenities to be provided rather than focus on helpless hawkers. There are jobs to be provided, power supply to be made regular, roads to be done, houses to be built and so on. The cry of the masses has touched a lot of people. I hope it touches the heart of the government.
