Nigerians have wasted no time in pointing accusing fingers at popular blogger, Linda Ikeji and actress, Toyin Aimakhu over their roles in delaying, Mayowa Ahmed’s overseas trip for surgery.
The young ovarian cancer patient battled the disease vigorously but passed on today, Sunday, August 21, 2016 at age 31. She died in a South African hospital where she was receiving treatment after Nigerians raised N81 million and $100k for her #SaveMayowa campaign.
Many of those who have flooded social media with condolences and prayers for the departed are, however, blaming Linda and Toyin Aimakhu for contributing to the worsening of Mayowa’s condition before she died.
Linda Ikeji had apologised last week for calling Mayowa’s donation campaign a scam after the Lagos state police cleared Mayowa’s family of all charges of fraud as they confirmed that the controversy was caused by ‘misunderstandings over the modalities for dispensing and controlling the money’.
While a few are of the view that it was unfair to blame either of the false alarmists (Linda and Toyin) for Mayowa’s death, most commenting believe the negative impact of their campaign of calumny against the patient while she was alive was significant.
