ASUU threatens to go on strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to go on a nationwide strike to press home its demands for the execution of its 2009 agreement with the Federal Government.

This is not the first time the association would go on a strike for the same reason. Prof Olusoji Sowande, the ASUU Lagos zone coordinator, revealed the plans for a strike at a news conference on Tuesday, August 30 in Lagos.

Prof Sowande said the union was planning to go on another strike after several efforts to ensure that the government addressed the pending demands, proved abortive.

He stated that the 2009 agreement between the federal government and ASUU, Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on funding of state universities, breaches of the conditions of service and re -negotiation of the agreement, were all still pending till date. ‎

Other demands he mentioned include: the exclusion of Nigerian universities from Pension Management Company, non-release of NEEDS Assessment Intervention Fund, funding of state universities, earned academic allowance and renegotiation of the agreement. ‎

He explained that the union had embarked on strike in 2012 and 2013 as part of the efforts to make the government implement the agreement, yet up till date the issues remained unresolved. He also said that the 2009 agreement provided for a periodic review after every three years which had not been done.

“The review of the agreement should have been undertaken in 2012 and 2015 but that did not happen.‎ “The implication is that our union has shown enough patriotism and understanding on these matters in the last four years.

We are perplexed and disappointed that both the Federal and State Governments are not responding to our consistent appeals to bring about genuine transformation in the education sector, ‘’ he said. ‎ According to him, embarking on strike has never been a favourable choice as the Students and ASUU members have always suffered the pains more.

It is unfortunate that the only language government appears to respect and listens to is that of industrial action like strike,’’ he said.

Sowande said that the national officers of the union had met with the minister of education, Malam Adamu Adamu on May 10 and tabled ten-point demand.

He said that the minister had promised that the issues would be resolved within two weeks but nothing had been done yet. Based on MoU signed in November 2013, he said that Nigerian universities required N1.3 trillion to revitalize the system.

He added that the government was already in arrears of N605 billion as at the third quarter of 2016. He said that the government had refused to release N128 billion and N250 billion respectively for the earned academic allowance of three years after the MOU was signed.‎

“In order to forestall this avoidable crisis, we appeal to all genuinely progressive individuals and groups to prevail on both the Federal and State Governments to commence release of funds for the listed purposes.

This is to arrest the brewing and potentially combustible situation in the Nigerian university system before it degenerated into a serious conflagration,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, ASUU on Friday, August 12, stated that it was okay with the ongoing admission screening process in some universities all over the nation.

The national president of the body, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, made this known in an interview with the NAN in Lagos.

See the first set of identical puppies to be born

Are you a lover of puppies? Imagine a set of identical puppies as pet. Hmm! How will you differentiate them?

According to BBC, the first set of identical puppies have been given birth to in South Africa. Seven puppies were delivered and two of them were discovered to be genetically identical.

"An Irish wolfhound has given birth to what are believed to be the first identically genetic puppies in history.

Veterinarian Kurt de Cramer was performing a Caesarean section on the dog in South Africa’s Rant en Dal Animal Hospital in Mogale City when he noticed that she had an unusual bulging by her uterus, the BBC reports.

He was shocked to find two foetuses attached with umbilical cords to the same placenta, which he then successfully delivered along with five other puppies.

The puppies are of the same gender, with very similar markings, which led de Cramer to believe they were identical twins. Reproductive specialists then confirmed his suspicious by obtaining blood samples from the twins when they were two weeks and then six weeks old.

Although this is first recorded case of a monozygotic pair of puppies, as DNA tests are not typically performed on dogs even when puppies look strikingly similar, it is difficult to know how rare it is.

In the past, identical twin foetuses have been reported in horses, but none have survived."

Which hair team do you belong to?

In this generation of ours, some people are often too quick to jump on various band wagons without considering the pros and cons of which band wagon actually suits them. In this hair game of ours, a lot of ladies have been misled by the seemingly good looks of natural hair, only for them to go natural and not be able to maintain the hair.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying natural hair is bad, neither am I saying it's good. I merely believe each person should do what suits them.

My dear friend and sister from another mother, the brain behind www.funmigaji.blogspot.nl has written a very captivating work on #teamnatural #teamrelaxer #teamobserver and she gave me her consent to publish it on my blog for your reading pleasure. Enjoy!

" #teamnatural #teamrelaxer #teamobserver

There is one big madam I want to talk about today. We spend most of our time making sure she is beautiful. Sometimes, she is grateful, sometimes she is not grateful and will go ahead and do her own. Who hasn't had a bad a day when bob refuses to bob, sleek refuses to be sleeky? Days when your hair makes you realise she has a mind of its own... Task-master proper. When she is happy, you are happy, When she is not happy, well, you are lucky if there is a wig nearby. As if that wasn't headache enough, now I have to make up my mind between #teamnatural or #teamrelaxer.  Let's look into this hairffair.

Hair is a trending topic in 2016.

My hair, richly black hair. Kinky, strong. We go way back. My earliest memories of my hair are of me seated between the legs of Aunty Moji. I had very thick, very full, very black hair. My hair was stubborn. If the big black comb went in, it could go in and pull me up. The comb and my hair might not have been ready to part ways, but I could tell that my scalp was getting tired of having anything to do with the two stubborn lot. Some days, it felt like my soft innocent scalp, caught between the two stubborn one could not bear it a moment longer.

It wasn’t long before I discovered that my hair was a capital issue. The hairdressers dreaded digging their hands into the thick, black forest of my million coarse strands. When they made it, they kept muttering and complaining. If it were straight, it would reach to my neck. I did not enjoy the trips to the hairdressers either.

Then someone got the bright idea of relaxing my hair. The hairdressers liked my hair better. Before the end of the quarter, I had lost all the hair at the back of my hair and become an iya eko proper. It was clear I had to cut it all off and start again. But, no, I did not give up. My hair taught me my first lesson in determination. I went back to making my hair again.

Following that, I went through the horrors of having my hair partitioned, pulled and imprisoned in twine. It hurt but I did not want to cut my hair. We eagerly nursed it for the next encounter with relaxer and how it would blow out. My hair is a warrior, you see, since then, it has survived sleepless nights of being entwined in threads, braids, heat that made me wonder how come my brain never got baked. I became bald on the back of my head and learnt not to rest too much on the back of my head. I learnt to run away from rain.

Then, after enduring relaxer burns here and there while having no relaxed hair to show for it, I was advised to tow the path of no-lye relaxer. My story changed. :d

My hair and I were in a good place or so I thought when Adichie’s Americanah came along. Americanaha book someone has said is 5% about hair. Ifemelu could not handle relaxer and my friends and I concluded, beht Adichie can exaggerate jor. Relaxers aren’t that bad now. How can she talk about a character’s hair getting that destroyed over common relaxer? With all the no-lye relaxers out these days...

I should have knocked on wood. That same month, I suffered a hairccident (don’t worry, I won’t coin another after this). It was a ghastly accident. I tried a new salon o and that was how my sweet no-lye relaxer became fire and brimstone in five minutes. I washed it off and spent the next few weeks hiding under wig (they said I looked beautiful with it, if only they knew what it concealed). It became a matter that warranted medical intervention and calls from friends and family: eh ya, sorry, dear.

But no, I did not cut my hair. My mom begged me not to. I did not really want to in my heart too. It was a “Hold me, I will commit suicide” affair. I relaxed again. Using that same pack. Same product but different salon. I relaxed again and again and again...

All is well again...

Or is it?

All of a sudden, I see #teamnatural hair. This hair is fine o. So natural hair can be soft like this. I booked appointment with my barber. I pinged girlfriend who was natural and pulled it off really great. She had gone back to relaxer. Hard to maintain. No time. Over the couple of days, I see many relaxed to natural, natural to relaxed. I have made the move to and fro a hundred times in the past couple of weeks. All in my mind. I started to wonder, this #team natural of a thing, is it for real? Do these naturals get tired of it and just ‘form’ because, well, you can’t just go back especially if you were the nazi kind ofnaturalista? Do you get tired of all the products you have to buy and keep up with? All I just mean to ask is: whatever side of the fence your hair belongs to, what do you think of  “going natural”?

As for me, Lupita might be my next turning. Or dreads. Or the Amber Rose lane. I really do not know yet. I belong to #teamobserver. While I observe, I will go natural in my mind today and remain relaxed in my mind tomorrow. I will even transition briefly and maybe get loced. What is your hair up to?

P:S You wonder, all this long talk on top hair? Hair is a serious issue. Ask little dude who had his hairccident this week and sent me the message: “I am dead”. Men, sleep and wake up to find a prankster has shaved off all your brows. Women, wash your hair and discover your shampoo isn’t actually shampoo but shaving cream and something... and the prankster smiles and says: Just Kidding."

How to save your salary successfully

During this time of  inflation, one has to learn ways of saving money judiciously. As a result, I was happy to come across this beautiful article on Jobberman and I want to share it with you. I believe you will learn a thing or two that will improve your saving culture.  Enjoy!

"It is not a coincidence that most individuals equate having a good job with an opportunity to save more of their earnings. For those who belong to this school of thought, a good job is also expected to translate into the ability to transit into an improved lifestyle and of course, the financial capacity to plan for things like a new car, investing in a startup or even a vacation to a dream destination.

Sadly, all of these depend largely on how much of your monthly income you are able to set aside as an employee and how disciplined you are towards sticking to your monthly budget.

The biggest challenge for most salary earners is sticking to the monthly plan as it directly affects other projected plans for the month.
In this article, we will focus on specific things you need to do to successfully save more of your earnings on a monthly basis.

Steps to Saving More of Your Salary After Payday

Draw out clear goalsUnderstand that one bank account will not workKeep track of your expensesBuild a budget and monitor itWhere have you been shoppingAcknowledge the H2O ruleExercise caution when using your ATM cardPut a cost to your timePick four banksEmbrace Delayed GratificationAvoid impulsive online purchasePlace Savings Before SpendingEat More Home-Made MealsReview your housing planConsider Buying Used ItemsFind Something on the SideSlash Cable TV BudgetSpend less on Transportation

 Draw Out Clear Goals

There’s no better time to spell out what your saving goals are for the month than the beginning of the month. It is crucial to understand that the how you intend to spend your salary is as important as the salary itself.
Also, ask yourself realistic questions. What are you saying for? Is it achievable? It is also important to put actual timelines to these targets you have set. These would serve as a source of motivation.

Undestand that one Bank Account Will Not Work

As clearly as you know that holding your breath under water for 10 minutes will not work, running one bank account as a means of saving more of your income will not be a wise move. The biggest threat to money saved is the temptation to spend it.
Therefore, if for for instance, you have a salary account, you would be able to save more after pay day if you open a separate account. This is the point where you decide which of the accounts you want to use for your daily transactions and which you want to set aside for your savings.
In a situation where you find yourself dipping your hands into your savings for emergencies, then you might want to get a third account and keep it strictly for emergencies. That way, your savings enjoys the peace it deserves.

 Keep Track of Your Expenses

Whatever happens, you have to keep track of your expenses. One easy way to to that is to come up with a rating system. For instance, if you earn N100,000 monthly and plan to save 60% of your salary monthly, draw up a rating system. Say, at the end of the month, you end up saving only 10% of your income, be honest enough to score yourself an F9. However, if at the end of the month, you discover that you have saved 60% or even 65% of your earnings, then you deserve an A1 rating. So, what’s your rating for this month going to read – A1 or F9?

Build a Budget and Monitor it

If you are planning to save a percentage of your earning, then you should have a budget and please bear in mind that your budget should include everything you spend money on monthly; even money spent on airtime for your mobile device and money you set aside for cwharity.
This is not the kind of budget that you carry around in your head; you have to write it out or have it typed out in a document where you can look through it as frequently as you need to. Write out how much your disposable income is on a monthly basis and how much you intend to save. Also write out every single item or service that you pay for; right from the salon to the restaurant and others. In other words, ensure everything is covered; every single thing.
It is however, crucial that you monitor your budget. In situations where you record expenses that were not initially included in the budget, include them in the budget under review and make plans for such recurrence. Regardless of what comes up, a portion of your salary needs to be saved.

Where Have You Been Shopping?

Do you find yourself indulging in impulsive shopping? Well, now is the time to put a stop to it. Where you shop is just as vital as what you are buying. I once bought a portable wardrobe at a shop close to my residence at N11,400 and after a few months, it began to fall apart mainly because I overloaded it. So, I needed to get a new one and decided to go to a wholesale store where I could get it cheaper as I was working on saving more money. I found a store about an hour drive from where I reside and got the same wardrobe for N4,000. Lesson learnt.

 Acknowledge the H2O Rule

How much water do you drink? Truth is, water remains one of the healthiest fluids on the planet. Even better, it helps you save quite a lot more money than you would have believed was possible.
For instance, if you gulp down a big cup of water before a meal, it helps you eat less and keeps you fuller for a longer spell of time. You want to know the best part? It’s free or very affordable (as the case may be) if you’re not into drinking water from the tap.
In essence, drinking more water means you’ll be spending less or alcohol, juice and beverages in general. To make things even more interesting, you’ll find yourself saving more as you’ll be eating less.
By drinking more water, you flush out toxins, get rid of waste via sweat and urination, removes by-products of fat, raise your metabolism and helps fight against colds, cancer and other ailments like heart attacks. The point is that you are healthier and you are able to save more of your salary.
Did you know that water has zero calories?

Exercise caution when using your ATM card

Your debit card or ATM card (Automated Teller Machine) could prove to be a lifesaver in more than a few situations. However, without caution and discipline, it ensures you stay poor. Why? Simple! You keep spending the money you have saved. Be reminded that getting a debit card costs money. I received a N1,000 debit alert from my bank last week for requesting for an ATM card.
Carrying an ATM card has a strong potential to leave you with far less than you planned to save at the end of the month. Here’s what you should do – Get an ATM card for your operational account; the one with your disposable income. For your savings account, avoid the debit card as much as you can. Te stronger yopu can resist the urge to get one, the safer your savings will be.
If for instance, you need to buy a car tracker on Cheki that costs N40,000 for your car, withdraw that exact amount without any extras.
In essence, there are good spending habits and there are bad ones. Carrying an ATM card for your savings account is a bad idea.
study has shown that by carrying a debit card, you are likely to spend 12% more on average. Reason is simple. It is an easier way to spend money.

Put a Cost to Your Time

If you have never had to calculate your hourly rate, then now is the time to do it. Break it down. For instance, if your net salary is N80,000 and you work from 9:00am to 5:00pm between Mondays and Fridays, this means you work for 8 hours daily, 40 hours weekly and roughly 160 hours monthly. Going by this figure, the hard fact is that you earn N500 for every hour you work. So, if for instance, you want to see a movie in Lagos, let’s break it down – A ticket costs N1,500. Popcorn costs N600. A drink costs N300 while a cup of ice cream is pegged at N600. All together, seeing a movie would cost you N3,000, which translates into 6 hours of work. At this point, you then decide if you still want to go ahead with the movie. If you feel it is worth it, feel free to proceed. If however, you think otherwise, take a walk knowing you made a sound financial decision within your monthly budget.

 Pick Four Banks

At a glance, this sounds like a lot of work; having four bank accounts. However, it’s a strategy that will work if you have extremely long term plans for your savings and this is how it will work.
First of all, pick four banks that you really like and open four bank accounts. Next step is to break them down into A, B, C and D. Below is the breakdown:

“A” represents Activities: This account is dedicated to things I want and not necessarily things need. This account fuels things like shopping or hanging out with friends. This is the account that you should link your debit card to help you fight the urge to overshoot your monthly budget for this. When you think about having fun, this is the account that should come to mind to take care of that. Any unspent money in this account at the end of the month should be transferred to another account. Endeavour to check this account from time to time to see how much you have left for fun at any given time of the month. The golden rule to this is to never overshoot this budget. If you exhaust the budget for fun, turn your attention to either indoor or outdoor games. Did you know that you can cut back on your fun expenses if you ever feel more aggressive about saving more of your salary.

“B” represents Bills: Regardless of your lifestyle, you will have bills to pay and this is the account that should be dedicated to that. Without mincing words, this account is all about business. You use this to take care of recurring bills like airtime, rent, electricity bills, refilling the gas. If you can, this should be the account tied to your salary account to enable you transfer to other accounts based on your budget and savings plan.

“C” represents Crisis: We all have that moment when something suddenly pops up that we didn’t pop up. They are called emergencies and this is precisely what this account should be created for. You can start with 5% of your income and gradually add a percentage or two over the next few months. Basically, it is for things you didn’t plan for; like a money gift for your sibling who just had a baby or money spend to get a police report and affidavit after getting robbed on your way to work. There is a need to spell out a primary savings goal for your crisis account. For instance, you can set a primary target of 60% of your monthly income and spread it over three months. This means if you earn N200,000, you save N40,000 monthly. In three months, you would have N120,000. You can pedal down afterwards and shift your attention to another savings account; like the one discussed in subsequent lines.

“D” represents Dream: This account should be tied to things like a dream vacation, your plan to pamper yourself with an affordable SUV or a long term plan to buy a house in Nigeria; especially one that you want to save towards. You should bear in mind that this is not an account for emergencies of any kind. it is simply an account where you want to keep your money for important things. The secret to this strategy is to split your major savings between the Crisis Account and the Dream Account to help you monitor your savings efficiently.
Another advantage of the crisis and Dream accounts is that they motivate you to save more every month. As explained earlier, after you meet your primary target for the Crisis Account, you can channel more of your savings here. However, bear in mind that you still have to save into the Crisis Account; maybe not as aggressively until there is a need to. Also, if you have a situation that sees you dipping into the Crisis Account, you must build it back to the primary target.
For the Dream Account, spend some time to seek out banks with higher interest rates.

Embrace Delayed Gratification

Delayed gratification refers to when you resist a smaller but more immediate reward in order to receive a larger or more enduring reward later. So, for instance, if someone offers to sell you a new pair of shoes or a really nice wristwatch, wait for a clear 48 hours before you make a decision on whether to buy or not. This gives you sufficient time to decide if this is something you need or something you want. If you’re work with this strategy, you’ll end up not buying quite a number of things you originally wanted to buy. There’s always something to buy. the TV and internet are riddled with advertisements of products and services we love.

 Avoid impulsive online purchase

It’s getting easier to buy things you want online compared to making the money needed to buy them. Online stores like Konga and Jumia being two of the biggest culprits here. To shop online, the best way to go about it is to save your money from the beginning of the year till the end of the year, which coincides with time of the year when stores commence their annual discounted sales; especially the Black Friday Sales. If you have to shop, plan your shopping online and ahead of time. Impulsive shopping should be considered a glaring threat to your ability to save.

 Place Savings Before Spending

One of the wrong ways to go about saving from your monthly earning is to save what is left after your spendings. No! That won’t work. If you truly desire to see the account balance of your savings account going up on a monthly basis, you have to save first and then spend what is left after you have saved. If you insist on spending and then saving what is left, the chances of having anything left are quite slim.

Eat More Home-Made Meals

Eating home-made meals helps you save more money. Dining out is one of the biggest pitfalls to saving for people. With some level of planning and discipline, it’s a habit that will yield results and save you more money. You can start by buying affordable foodstuff at home. If you have a refrigerator, possibilities get even more exciting for your dining habits.
Come up with a weekly plan for your meals and remember that eating well shouldn’t be limited to eating at restaurants all week long. it’s actually fine to eat out occasionally but when it becomes a daily habit, the figures begin to build up much faster than you would have thought was possible. Research has shown that meals sold at restaurants cost at more than what a meal cooked at home would have cost. In a study conducted by the University of California, it was found that individuals making $60,000 (not the poor) are most likely to visit fast food chains. The more expensive the restaurant, the higher the figure shoots up.
Better still, you can plan your meals with a service like wired meals . This way, you save much more since you can order your meals online.

Review your housing plan

The truth is that the rules of saving must be modified based on your lifestyle. For instance, where do you reside? Let’s take a closer look at this. Let us assume that you reside in a 2 bedroom flat that costs you N300,000 annually, the next question is how much is your monthly income? Let us put your net at N160,000. For accommodation, the best saving plan is that which revolves around saving 25% of your income or less. Back to our example, if you save 25% of your income, that would be N40,000 on a monthly basis. If you save this for a year, that’s N480,000, which covers your next rent; with a clear N180,000 extra. This helps put the percentage of your saving that should be saved for rent in proper perspective.
If you own a home, you might consider saving for other purposes like investments; depending largely on what your needs are.

Consider Buying Used Items

You would be amazed how much you are able to save when you buy used items instead of new ones and there are several places to get these in Nigeria. We are talking about used furniture, electronics, fashion items and accessories and even cars. If you’re buying a used car, ensure you get a mechanic to inspect the vehicle before you pay for it. Same goes for electronics and other items that can be tested.

Find Something on the Side

Not a lot of people would say no to an opportunity to make extra money. Multiple streams of income help you plan better as this translates into income and as you might have guessed, more money to save. For instance, you could manage an online community for a company and earn extra cash or you could help a local magazine develop content.

Slash Cable TV Budget

Rather than budgeting a chunk of your income on expensive cable TV subscriptions, you can actually seek out alternatives. At the moment, DSTV premium package goes for N13,980 while its Access (over 45 channels) and Family packages (over 55 digital TV channels) go for N1,800 and N3,600 respectively per month each.
While some people would argue that it’s best to scrap cable completely and save the money, I recommend alternatives like Startimes and GoTV. However, if you spend less time watching TV, you could free up the money you allocate to cable TV subscription. Also, you could put the free time to better use by acquiring skills that propel you closer to a promotion at work or even a salary raise.

Spend less on Transportation

Did you know that by referring your friends to take Uber rides in Nigeria, you get free rides. I have a friend who have taken over N50,000 worth of Uber rides. Of course, she has saved a whole lot of money that would have been spent on commercial cabs. Also, those short distances that you can cover with a stroll should not be replaced with a ride in a tricycle. If you take a tricycle worth N100 to a salon and back home three times a week like me, then you would have spent N1,200 in a month and N14,400 in a year. You could have saved that with a stroll.

Conclusion

To master the art of saving more of your salary after payday, you need to draw up a budget. This helps you control what you spend. Tell us which of these strategies work for you."

Lagos State government gives 14 days ultimatum to owners of illegal structures and hawkers in Ikoyi, V.I, Lekki ad others

In its bid to make Lagos State a mega city, the Lagos State Government today read the riot act to all the owners of illegal structures, shanties, street hawkers and those who have converted walkways into trading points and food courts in Ikoyi, Victoria Island and the Lagoon Front of Lekki, and issued a 14-day grace period to remove such illegal structures.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr Tunji Bello, the State Government warned that if such illegal structures are not removed after the 14 days grace, the State Special Task Force on the Clean Up of the areas would move in to enforce the laws.

“The owners of all illegal structures, shanties, abandoned buildings and all those who have converted road median to commercial uses in Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Lekki have between today and two weeks’ time to comply or have the State Special Task Force on the Clean Up of the areas to contend with,” the SSG warned.

The statement added that owners of all abandoned buildings in different areas of Ikoyi, Lekki and Victoria Island which are now harbouring prostitutes, illegal miscreants and unwanted elements must clear the structures of such undesirable elements immediately.

He specifically warned owners of properties on the Lagoon fronts of Lekki Phase 1 who have littered the whole areas with compactors and several other dead weight equipments to remove them out immediately.

Bello said the State Government was concerned about the conversion of the frontages of properties and abandoned houses to kiosks and trading points by maids and guards as well as the unregulated activities of horticulturists who have turned setbacks to hide outs and selling points.

He reiterated the determination of the Ambode-led administration to restore the original master plan of Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Lekki by checking the activities of roadside automobile repairers who have converted many dual carriage lanes to single lanes with indiscriminate parkings.

He said the State Government would no longer tolerate unauthorized parking of vehicles, trucks, among others on drainage infrastructure, adding that owners of such vehicles and properties with unkempt drainages will be prosecuted.

Bello said it was totally unacceptable for people to stockpile and display wares such as bags of charcoal on major Roads like Ahmadu Bello Way and Federal Secretariat Road, Ikoyi, stating that henceforth such goods would be confiscated and the owners prosecuted.

“We are using this medium to sensitize members of the public and residents of the affected areas who are involved in these illegalities to immediately take right action and do the needful as the State Government will take the necessary steps to enforce its environmental and sanitation laws forthwith.

“All those engaging in roadside display of wares, illegal street trading and all illegal squatters on undeveloped land and all those who have converted road median to commercial uses in Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Lekki are being advised in their own interest to put a stop to the illegalities,” he said

Reasons why Ruggedman is still single

Ruggedman is very much single and there is no sign that he intends to get married soon. He gave valid reasons why he hasn't gotten married. He claims marriage should not be done because other people are doing it.

He stated that there are many artistes in the industry whose career experienced slow down due to marriage.

“Marriage will happen when it will happen. Marriage is not a fashion statement that everybody wants to join the trend. You don’t get married because people are getting married or get married because people asked you to do so, you get married when you are very ready to get married. I keep saying parents should not force their children to get married because it’s part of what causes domestic violence in homes of nowadays”.

“For now, i am still single. I know I’ll get married when the right time comes. If you do things right, marriage won’t be a barrier to your music or whatever you are doing. I will not lie to you, I know a lot of artistes that got married and it slowed down their career so much. But there are those who got married and are still doing their thing. It’s all left to you and how you manage your marriage and career. I’ll always advice that one should marry his or her best friend; it helps a lot”.

Governor Yahaya Bello stoned in Lokoja

Some upset residents stoned Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello on Friday, as he emerged from a mosque where he had observed Jumat prayer in Lokoja, the state capital.

It is not immediately clear why the residents attacked Mr. Bello, but witnesses said the incident occurred at the Lokoja Central Mosque in the old market area of the capital.

A source who confirmed the development said the disgruntled persons also carried few placards while chanting anti-government slogans. The source also said Mr. Bello was pelted with rotten fruits and vegetables. The police dispersed the crowd with teargas afterwards.

The source said. “The situation in this state is even worse than what the residents are doing. The situation is pathetic,”.

On the other hand, an official in the state said that was the second time in two weeks the governor would be so attacked as complaints mount about the depreciating living conditions in the state. “He recently attended an event in Ankpa, and residents there defied heavy security to stone him,” the official said. “We don't understand what’s going on.”

Consequently, Kogi State Government spokespersons, Kingsley Fanwo and Gbenga Olorunpomi, could not be reached for comment for this reports.

Pastor advices women to check their partner's manhood before marriage

Well known Television/Radio presenter, Jessica Opare Saforo has disclosed that her pastor once adviced that it is appropriate for would-be-wives to check the size of their partner's manhood before getting married to them.

Jessica who is the co-host of celebrity and lifestyle show on Viasat 1, Celebrity Fanzone was commenting on a news report that a Nigerian woman had filed for divorce after a week of marriage stating that the man’s enormous manhood is the reason for the divorce.

According to Jessica, her pastor insisted during service one time that women should inspect the manhood of their potential husbands before marriage.

I remember being in church one day when my pastor was preaching about things like this … What the pastor did say though is, women should ask to see [the manhood].

“They have to look at it to be sure because you can look at the size to be sure is if it’s something you can live with,” she said.

I agree if you are not even going to go the whole nine yards [pre-marital sex], but you should see.

Meanwhile, her comments have sparked intense controversy on social media with many people divided over the matter.

Some people believe this is outrageous and couldn’t believe a man of God will support such an idea, but others have taken sides with the pastor especially because of what happened to the Nigerian woman.

They are of the opinion that every couple should have a fair idea of what they should expect from their spouses in the bedroom.

However, Jessica failed to give an alternative if men also wanted to inspect the "womanhood" of their potential wives when asked by co-host, Akosua Hanson.

Here is the man with the longest fingernails in Africa

This 34-year-old Kenyan man,  John Waweru with his over 30 centimetre-long nails on his left hand is seriously aiming to be the person with the longest nails on earth so that he can enter the Guinness World Book of Records.

Waweru said that the nails earn him between KSh 2,000 (N6,500) and KSh 10,000 (N32,579) a day because it is a ‘tourist attraction’.

"This is my job, this is what feeds me. I go to the beaches and tourists pay to see the fingernails. I also go to places like Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) shows, get-togethers and schools where people pay to see my nails."

He has been able to use his income from the fingernails wisely because with the income, he has managed to build a four roomed Swahili house and start a nail salon for manicure and pedicure.

However, this feat comes with a price as Waweru says he can neither cook nor wash his clothes due to the long nails. He has also stopped covering himself with a bedsheet while sleeping in order to avoid breaking the nails.

According to psychiatrists when parents are strict their children become liars

Anyone that has course to deal with children will notice these tendencies among some children of the extremely strict parents.

Psychotherapist Philippa Perry claims that parents who are too strict create an atmosphere whereby their child does not feel safe telling the truth. That is, parents who are unnecessarily strict, will more likely turn their children into skilled and effective liars.

Perry holds that all lies are co-created and by not allowing a situation where children can tell the truth, parents can only blame themselves if they find out they have been deceived.

Canadian psychologist Victoria Talwar, developed an experiment to measure children's lies and backup this theory. According to reports, Dr Talwar chose two schools in West Africa - (one with relaxed rules and one very punitive school), to take part in her experiment 'Peeping Game'.

The test asks children to guess what object is making a certain noise without looking. The last object, a ball, makes a sound that bears no resemblance to it. The adult then leaves the room and when they come back they ask the child what the object is and if they peeked.

Dr Talwar found that in the more relaxed school some of the children lied and some told the truth, roughly on a par with results she had seen in Western schools. While in the very strict school the children were extremely quick to lie and did it 'very effectively'.

Check this out: Linda Ikeji will not just be blogging

Famous,  controversial blogger, Linda Ikeji has opened an office. She has been blogging for 10 years and believes it is now time to delve into other things in her newly established office. She wants to add four other businesses to her blogging business.

Find out what the 4 businesses are below:

"Y’all know by now that I’m a show-off, so get over it! Lol. So anyway, I’m sure by now a lot of you have heard or read that I’m finally expanding my business. Yes, I am! Blogging will always be my first love but I’m finally ready to expand into other things and take on bigger challenges. For years now, people have been suggesting to me to do more, be more, gave me different ideas of other things to venture into, but I didn’t pay attention because I wasn’t ready. I like to do things at my own pace & my own time. I’m finally ready! After almost 10 years of blogging, I’m ready for bigger challenges.

So aside Linda Ikeji Blog, which you amazing readers have helped me grow in the last 10 years, (LIB will be 10 in November 2016), I’m creating four new brands under Linda Ikeji Media Ltd.

The first is Linda Ikeji TV. I’m creating my own online TV Network. And in my new office, we built a studio where we can shoot some of our programmes. Our TV shows will include reality shows, entertainment/sport programmes, health/food programmes, game shows, talks shows etc…and eventually even a series. Some of our programmes will also air on terrestrial TV.

My goal is to eventually have my own TV channel on cable but we have to create enough content before we venture into that..which is what we will do for the next few months to a year.

The second brand is Linda Ikeji Radio…but not a radio station like many have thought. It’s an online radio (at least for now) and at the office, I built a podcast studio where we can operate…and some of our shows will be aired live.

The 3rd brand is Linda Ikeji Music…it’s a strictly music website for everything music in Nigeria plus I’m also building a state-of-the-art music studio…

Then there’s LIS. Which I hope will be my biggest brand yet. Maybe even bigger than LIB. I will be unveiling that in a week or so, and I will need your massive support with this one.

So, including LIB, I have five brands now to manage…Yay! I’m so excited. This is my dream… this is everything I have ever dreamed my life would be and more and I can’t thank God enough for giving me so much grace and showing me kindness. I pray favour into your lives also. I also want you to believe that your dreams can come true. Just keep working and believing!"

Linda Ikeji scolded by Nigerians for Mayowa's death

Nigerians have wasted no time in pointing accusing fingers at popular blogger, Linda Ikeji and actress, Toyin Aimakhu over their roles in delaying, Mayowa Ahmed’s overseas trip for surgery.

The young ovarian cancer patient battled the disease vigorously but passed on today, Sunday, August 21, 2016 at age 31. She died in a South African hospital where she was receiving treatment after Nigerians raised N81 million and $100k for her #SaveMayowa campaign.

Many of those who have flooded social media with condolences and prayers for the departed are, however, blaming Linda and Toyin Aimakhu for contributing to the worsening of Mayowa’s condition before she died.

Linda Ikeji had apologised last week for calling Mayowa’s donation campaign a scam after the Lagos state police cleared Mayowa’s family of all charges of fraud as they confirmed that the controversy was caused by ‘misunderstandings over the modalities for dispensing and controlling the money’.

While a few are of the view that it was unfair to blame either of the false alarmists (Linda and Toyin) for Mayowa’s death, most commenting believe the negative impact of their campaign of calumny against the patient while she was alive was significant.

Read what Nigerians are saying below…

Breaking news: #savemayowa: Mayowa is dead!

Reports I just gathered has it that Mayowa Ahmed is dead. She died after battling rigorously for her life despite the torture from ovarian cancer.

She got donations worth millions of naira after popular actress Toyin Aimakhu intervened by soliciting for funds on her behalf. However, aunty Linda poured sand sand in her garri by blogging that the whole fund raising was a scam.

In response to this, the Nigeria police stepped in to investigate the matter and they had to freeze Mayowa's account during the course of their investigations. Luckily, the account was later released but some steps towards saving Mayowa had been slowed down.

There are speculations that Aramide Kasumu, CEO of Life Stake Foundation is also part of the brains behind accusing Mayowa's family of scamming Nigerians.

It's really sad that Mayowa has passed on after her fierce battle with cancer.

The cry of Lagos hawkers

Many times, I have witnessed hawkers being arrested and bundled into black Maria and I have often wondered what their crime is. Fine it is said that anything the law sees as a crime is a crime? Yes. But what happens when the government gives less options?

Furthermore, what happens when the government fails to perform their duties especially the ones they promised before these same masses voted them in? Is there no law against the government in this regard? If a hawker is bundled away in a black Maria, what should a government that fails to perform it's duties be bundled away in? Better still, what should a government official that embezzles the nation's resources be bundled away in?

All these are questions that beg for answers. Why do the poor get prosecuted while the rich gets a pat on the back? Where are the likes of Bankole, Lai Mohammed, DSP Alamieyeseigha, Bukola Saraki, James Ibori and so on?

There are basic amenities to be provided rather than focus on helpless hawkers. There are jobs to be provided, power supply to be made regular, roads to be done, houses to be built and so on. The cry of the masses has touched a lot of people. I hope it touches the heart of the government.

Disadvantages of constantly wearing your hair in a bun

There are many disadvantages of constantly wearing your hair in a bun.

Below are some of the disadvantages:

1. Your Hairline is in danger- when you wear your hair in a bun all the time, you are pulling the hair in one direction to the middle and this can cause breakage along the hair line from the front, sides to the back...if you keep this up especially if
you brush hard to sleek it down or add gel
regularly, you will notice your hairline starts to recede...avoid this problem by loosing your grip and brushing out your hairline to form baby hairs along the hair line.

2. You risk breakage at the start of your bun- have you seen where someone holds their hair in a pony tail and uses hair pins all around the base near where the ponytail starts because the hair around
is too short to be in the ponytail? Keep bunning and that person could be you especially if you use an elastic band to hold your hair or you hold the pony tail too tightly causing dryness at the joint resulting in breakage. I recommend satin covered pony tail holders or ouch less bands to stop the snagging and dryness around the area.

3. Your ends might be in danger - especially if you like to tuck them under the ponytail holder. When done too tightly, you will create dents along the hair shaft/strands....these dents will become weak
spots from which breakage can occur. To avoid this from happening, I'd recommend you fold your ends and secure them with hair pins rather than the pony tail holder or elastic band.

Hunger makes Nigerians butcher gigantic fish

A gigantic whale was captured yesterday after it became stranded on the shore of the Enu-Ama beach, in Ilaje area of Ondo state. As at the time the helpless animal was discovered, it was still groaning and gasping for life but when Nigerians that have no interest in marine wildlife and how this can be turned into cash descended upon it, the Whale was butchered alive.

Consequently, majority believed that the animal was killed for eating due to the hardship in the country while some feel it’s
lack of exposure.

See the gay marriage that is taking Nigerian Internet by storm

A Nigerian Gay man David Ukre, from Warri, Delta state, got married to his white partner Eric T. Shoen in New York, on Saturday July 30th.

However, slight controversy arose when some people attacked the newly married couple on their social media accounts.

David's husband Eric has now opened up in an article for The Huffington Post, saying they didn't expect the news to leak and break the Nigerian Internet, as David's family members were unaware about his sexuality and wedding.

Read his article below:

"We tried very carefully to make sure this wouldn't happen. Guests were instructed not to take photos during the ceremony. We were very particular about who was invited. It was a sad added bonus that most of the guests from Nigeria cancelled just 24 hours before the ceremony.

On July 30, I married a Nigerian man. Although he is very special to me, he is not famous. He has never done anything to warrant so much media coverage. We had a small ceremony under the leaves of some great old trees on the lawn of an adorable little restaurant. My family and our closest friends joined us. Our vow exchange was only 30 minutes long.

What followed was a day of love, laughter, joy, eating, sore-feet, kids running circles around the yard, and family and friends celebrating our day together. We posted only a few photos to our Facebook pages and asked guests to not post photos or mention our marriage. That night, we went out dancing to a club with friends who stayed over. The next morning, we decided to take some friends with us on the first day of our honeymoon to see Niagara Falls. We were still enjoying every moment of calling each other husband, taking photos kissing in front of the falls, getting sprayed at the Cave of the Winds, and accepting well wishing texts from family and friends...

Monday morning, I woke up early to return the rental car that we had used for the weekend. When I returned, my husband was pacing and crying, distraught, pointing to his phone. Somehow, someone had either sold or given photos from our wedding and first dance to one of Nigeria's notorious gossip bloggers, Linda Ikeji who chose to publish them on her blog. Whether to out David and make a mockery or to somehow use it as advocacy, no one knows. What we do know is that she had no permission from either of us to use our photos or story. My husband calls me “the fixer” for a reason. I felt like I might be able to fix this before it got out of control.  I called my sister who is an attorney for advice. Given that the information was posted on an international site, there was little we could do. My friends at Google and Blog-spot, and attorneys who are friends of mine gave me the same unfortunate news. Mind you, this is all happening at 6:30 a.m. on a Monday morning. Friends from all over the USA messaged me as soon as I posted on my Facebook for some assistance. I did contact the blogger directly via email and asked that the photos of our wedding, of our trip with my family, photos of our groomsmen, and direct quotes from my Facebook page be removed. I quickly locked down the security on my Facebook which had been relatively open so that I could use it for advertising and sales. I never heard back from her.

At 7:00 a.m. I got a call from my twin brother, who is my #best friend:

J: “Eric, which blog are you talking about?”

Me: “There should only be one”

J: “It’s already on at least a dozen blogs.”

I had to tell David at this point that there was little I could do. At the same time, his phone and my phone started to heat up with Facebook messages from strangers
condemning us for being gay. His phone started to ring continuously from unknown Nigerian phone numbers.

I felt lost. I still get a terrible feeling in my stomach just a week and a half later. I hate being helpless. How could our tiny, personal wedding in Rochester mean so much to hateful people on the other side of the planet that they would find us on the internet so they could harass us?

I worked as fast as I could asking bloggers to remove our photos and mention of us, but only one complied. By the end of the day, more than 150 sites had blogged about us. They were not saying anything overtly mean for the most part. The comments, on the other hand, mostly mentioned the “end of times,” beheading us if we came to Nigeria, asking God to rain down evil upon us, suggesting that we get anal cancer and die, calling us devils, and threatening us in various other vulgar ways.

Some people commented positively, but they were in the minority. David’s groomsmen were also accused of being gay.

One of them felt compelled to come out via social media after the pressure. David’s family was harassed by neighbors and local hooligans. He hadn’t told his family we were getting married. They were not even aware he was gay.  Davido's sister called to make sure we knew that she knew and she supported us. She relayed that his mom was not admitting
anything and continued to defend David to anyone who bothered her. His other siblings also messaged us to say that they were being harassed via telephone, in person, and social media.

You might ask yourself why I would share this story?

You see, I fell in love with an amazing Nigerian man. I knew it was illegal for him to be gay in his country. I knew it was illegal for his family to know he was gay and not report him. I never thought that my tiny little wedding in Rochester,
New York to this man would go any further than between our close friends who were invited and maybe some of their friends.

David was afraid to come out of the closet to his family for so many reasons, some of which I recognize in my own coming out story. Telling my parents was very frightening, painful and tough, but they support me now. I grew up here, where letting someone know you are gay was tough, not illegal. Some of David’s reasoning can only be understood by someone who grew up in Nigeria or a similar country where it is illegal to be gay.

Why would this be such big news in Nigeria?

I believe it is because the press still wants to vilify gay men and women. They want to show that the USA is a place that corrupts the morals of children and is a den of sin and iniquity. The current political election probably isn’t helping change that impression much. The mere thought of two men getting married is enough to incite vitriol from all corners of Nigeria, and other parts of the world still today.

We queer folk still have a lot of fighting to do.  We may have thankfully won marriage equality here on American soil, but until it is legally safe for our gay, queer, trans, and gender non-conforming brothers, sisters, and family to live their lives as they wish to be in all corners of the world, the fight
must go on."

A 3 year old girl dies on her birthday after being ran over by a car but the party continues

A three-year-old girl died after being hit by a car when she ran onto the road during her own birthday party.
Jayda Handy ran onto the road near North 84th and West Marion streets in Milwaukee to meet her grandfather, but
she was struck by a car about 2pm on Sunday.

Surprisingly, the party continued afterwards, with family and friends
saying that it is what the three-year-old would have wanted.

'It's just still unreal to me that this happened,' Jayda's father, Jaylen Handy, told Fox 6.

'She was just here preparing for her party all morning... She saw her granddad, she ran over there....

'She was just a happy baby. Always happy. Always happy. Everybody loved her... everybody is going to miss her. She
had an impact on everybody.' The heartbroken father added that the driver of the car who hit his daughter was 'flying through' when the accident took place.

Police said the driver remained at the scene after the accident and is helping with the investigation. No citations are expected as it is believed the person was
driving legally.

Woman delivers her baby herself at hospital entrance while husband looks for a parking space

A UK couple, Jessica Stubbins and her husband Tom have described the moment they welcomed their baby girl named
Lucy at the entrance to Scunthorpe General Hospital without medical help.
CCTV caught the moment Jessica delivered her daughter all by herself the minute she walked through first set of doors at the hospital. Her husband Tom missed the moment as he was still in the parking lot searching for a place to park.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, Tom, a butcher, told how Jessica exclaimed:
'It's a girl, it's a girl! I'm sorry, I'm sorry!'
He recalled: 'She felt really guilty because I missed it. I was just in absolute shock and I didn't know what was happening.'

Jessica said: 'I just told Tom he best drop me off at the door as he parked the car.
'And then I was trying to close the door really quick and then as I got out I just knew that she was on the way.' After Lucy's birth, nurses arrived and wrapped her in a hoodie before taking the family inside.

Show host Kate Garraway expressed her amazement at the unusual birth saying:
'You didn't even sit down! This is what I can't understand; you're just so casual about it.'

Jessica, who works as an assistant manager at Card Factory, laughed: 'She was just coming. There was no stopping her, there was no time to sit down.'
Jessica had visited the hospital earlier that day but it wasn't until midnight before she discovered her baby, Lucy just couldn't wait and the couple decided to dash back to the hospital.

Conductor jumps into canal in Lagos after conflict with passengers

According to reports, some passengers boarded a bus from Ajah to CMS for N250. However, when they got to IKate roundabout, the driver and conductor suddenly announced that they would not continue the journey. Thus, they decided to transfer all the passengers on to another bus.

Unluckily, some older women on the bus resisted the arrangement. They announced that they would not leave the bus, they said the driver and conductor must take them to CMS as earlier agreed.

In the course of the saga, one of the women grabbed the conductor's t-shirt. The conductor, in order to escape, jumped into a nearby canal and refused to come out.

After some minutes of displaying stubbornness, he eventually came out to return the transport fare to the other passengers who agreed to board another bus.

1. Malaria and feverish conditions
2. Indigestion
3. Scurvy
4. Diabetes
5. Kidney and liver problems
6. Rheumatism
7. Bacteria and parasites
8. Piles

10. Mild stomach ailments

One can extract the juice by plucking the leaves, rinsing them and scrubbing them repeatedly to get the juice which is usually dark green in colour. Sieve the water and drink the juice.
