Nigerian boy's classmates surprise him by donating money to fly his mother to America for his graduation

Mike Tertsea, a Nigerian boy got the most amazing surprise of his life during his graduation as his classmates at John Carroll School in Bel Air donated $1,763 to fly his mom in from Benue State, Nigeria to attend his graduation from highschool.

After 4-years of being apart, Felicia Ikpum, his 56-year old mom could barely recognise her son when she got picked up from the airport last Friday, May 20th.

Mike, who plays basketball at John Carroll and plans to further his education at the University of Rhode Island, was surprised when he learnt on Wednesday that the entire senior class, including faculty members, had contributed towards making sure his mom was in attendance for his graduation.

Toward the end of the school’s annual ceremony and Mass, the principal of the school Madelyn Ball told the friends and relatives who were gathered in the gym that one student had asked, "Is Mike's mum coming for graduation?"

Mike and his mother Felicia received a standing ovation as they were asked to come up on the stage during the graduation ceremony. They thanked the entire senior class for bringing them together after 4-years. Some of his classmates were teary-eyed as Mike and his mother made their way to the stage.

Mike said he is an only child and his mother is his only immediate relative, adding that he would like to pursue a career in economics or business management.
